Frequently Asked Questions

How long will the process take?

The new process for completing your reexamination will be much faster. Once you’ve logged on to the portal, you will see all of the information you provided at your last reexamination: the members of your household, income, expenses and so forth. If there are no changes for you to report to HABC, you will only need to verify that the information you provided at your last reexamination has not changed. You will then upload current documents to verify your household’s income and expenses.

If there are changes for you to report to HABC, there are a few more steps. You will need to fill out information on what changed and upload documents to verify that change. For instance, if you recently had a child and would like to add them to your household, you would add information on the child then upload a birth certificate and Social Security card to the portal.

I don’t have a computer at home. Can I still complete the reexamination process online?

Yes! You can use a smartphone or tablet to complete the reexamination process and upload your verification documents. You can access the portal anywhere you have access to the internet. This includes the HCVP Office at 1225 Pratt Street – the waiting area is now equipped with kiosks for you to complete your reexaminations any time the office is open, no appointment is needed! These kiosks are equipped with scanners for you to upload your documents straight to your reexamination file.

What if I don’t have a scanner?

Good news! Documents do not have to be uploaded using a scanner – you can use your smartphone or tablet to take a picture of the document you want to upload. There are a few requirements if you take a picture and upload it:

  1. You must take a picture of the full document,
  2. The picture must be clear,
  3. And you must be able to read all of the text on the document.

If you don’t have a scanner, you can come to the HCVP office at 1225 Pratt Street and use one of the kiosks there. All kiosks have scanners and are connected to the HABC MyHousing portal, meaning you can scan and upload your documents directly to your reexamination file.

What if I don’t have all my documents?

The portal allows you to pause your reexamination for up to two weeks. During that time, you can log back on to the portal and upload any required documents to complete your reexamination. Make sure to write down your username and password so that you can log back on to the portal.

If you do not upload all of your documents within two weeks, you will be required to attend a Reexamination Interview at the HCVP Office.
